So far so excellent!,
I did a trial install just to make sure everything was working properly, that's when I realized it wasn't going to be installed in my office as originally plotted. How the hell can ONE tiny fan be so damn noisy??!!??
Pros: Setup was simple, cameras produce fantastic quality video. User Interface is simple enough.. Viewing it through my HTC one (M8) took maybe 45 seconds to get up and running perfectly. It if continues to work for years as it does now.. I'll be thrilled!
Cons: My PC (with 8 120mm fans) is quieter than this DVR, I kid you not!
As mentioned in another review, Having the tail connected to the camera is ridiculous, it forces a much larger hole than would be necessary if it could just plug straight into the camera.
In the end, I mounted it in my attic in a secure air cooled server rack I had laying around... When I thought about it, It makes no sense to mount the DVR in a obvious location, If your robbed, they will likely carry the evidence away with them.
This made for a tough install, But I have a fish tape and a drill, and I know how to use them.
For anyone interested in this type of install, I have two other items to recommend to you.
One is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C1Z0HA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Which is a RF IR extender for your remote control.. It works like a champ over 100 feet away!
The second is this http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY%C2%AE-over-Extension-Cable-Adapter/dp/B003BDMK3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1398758664&sr=1-1&keywords=USB+Cat5
That's for your mouse... I originally had a spare RF wireless mouse in mind, and it did work, but it was spotty and probably just a few feet out of range to work perfectly.. Running the USB extension gets you up to 150 feet of workable cable.. Don't buy a standard USB extension cable if your run is much over 20 feet, you'll be disappointed.

Stunnning video quality, not too hard to install, software set-up could use some improvement,

It is just OK,
The set up is honestly straight-forward:
- connect the cameras to the NVR using regular cat5 network cables.
- plugin the mouse
- connect the NVR to your TV or a regular monitor
- connect the NVr to power and turn it on.
- download the mobile app to your mobile devices and add the NVR device in by scanning its bar code
- start the live view on your mobile device to see what the camera sees.
- (run more settings configuration as needed on the TV/monitor).
A number of things I am not pleased about:
- the NVR is HUGE. I am talking about the ancient tape cassette tape player large (maybe thinner, but so what). Why in this day and age when we can cram a mini computer into a smart phone, people are still making this type of bulky devices! Maybe the system boards of this size nowadays are free and using those cuts the cost significantly? I am at loss as to where to place this. The shelf in my closet is nearly too small for this beast.
- it is noisy! the constant humming noise from its fan is quite obnoxious, especially in the middle of the night in the house, when not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
- Design considerations: The camera has a tail. A network cable plugs into the tail. Because the tails gets thick at the end (to accommodate the RJ45 plug), it is really a hassle to thread the tail through the wall. You would have to drill the hole as huge as the RJ45 plug. Why in the world you cannot lose the tail and leave the RJ45 connector in the camera housing (or at the end of the housing)???
- Audio with the image would be helpful.
I reckon I will test a bit longer before I make the go/no-go choice on this one...
