This camera is the best network camera that I have bought! It is different in that it is extremely simple to set up. You don't even need a computer to set it up and it works well with other similar cameras. Mine started up in the wireless mode before I even read the instruction guide. It is that simple to get running. My advice is to try to forget about all the technical issues required with other network cameras and just plug it in and let it do its thing. The iPhone software for this camera is on the iTunes store, and it also runs as soon as you tap in the camera id number and your own private password. I plot to buy more of them. One feature it has that other cameras do not have is "passive POE". Using the "Y" cable that comes with the camera you only need one wire to the camera, not two like the other cameras. Plug in the AC wall adapter and connect it to a long piece of CAT 5 cable which plugs right into the camera cable. You can buy this at any electronic gadget store. That's it. If you can plug in a vacuum cleaner or electric toaster you can plug in this camera as well. No "www this" and "www that". The camera takes about 5-10 seconds for all the lights to start flashing because it is run by a smart microprocessor inside the camera, similar to the way the iPhones works. The computer is inside the camera. Make sure you buy a video quality SD card for best HD quality and speed. I would suggest at least 32 GB CLASS 6 memory, not the cheaper 4X used for photos only.

I really wanted to like the camera. This camera, like the D-Link suffers from fake alerts during dawn and dusk hours. It certainly seems well made, but the firmware has issues. In fact, the third evening after making changes to the configuration, fake alarms were going most of the night. The next morning I did a camera reset (not a lot of fun in March in New England where winter has not yet released its grip). The User's Manual does not tell you you that a reset requires that you re-configure the L-View software.... I set sensitivity and alert notification information the same as it was before the reset, and now the camera does not recognize a person walking in the driveway as motion, whereas as the day before that same person would have triggered alerts (correctly). Oh, and did i mention that right out of the box there was an issue...turns our that the QR code gives a different number than the Camera code written on the camera.. a key piece of information need to setup. I will say, that the night image is better than the D-Link, but no PIR. Tech Support has excellent hours, 9AM - 10PM Eastern tim., and certainly if is it s setup issue they seem quite capable. The terrible news is that the Tech Support group is outsourced by Lorex, so they only have Level 1 support. Issues like the dawn/dusk fake triggers will never be escalated to the engineers of Lorex.

I have to say, I expected more from Lorex, a respected name in security/surveillance. The L-View software does not have masking, which is available on most other brands.

I nearly did not buy these cameras based on negative reviews; I would have made a mistake. They are what i need which is a wired camera with sound viewable online from phone, tablet or computer. Yes these cameras can be wireless but if you want reliablity than you would be foolish to not run them wired. Tried one wireless didnt work so well. They are not a right 720p quality but they are 1280x720p resolution. I have 5 wired up so far and plot to install more as the budget allows. We have a 2.5 mps dsl and they work just fine with our slow internet. Night vision is fantastic indoors but outside they dont have enough IR lights illuminate everything. I bought a few Large IR Lights on the side and the camera lights up like a christmas tree. I also bought a used 8 port switch with uplink so i can see them all on my network correctly. Unless the camera is DOA this setup is only as excellent as you make it become. Do a excellent job and it will do the rest.
