There are things that we like, and things we don't.
The system was simple to set up, and came with everything needed. Of course, you do have to run the cables from the cameras to the DVR system. The cameras are not wireless.
We like the ability to expand this up to 16 cameras. We currently are using 7, waiting on cooler weather to install the 8th (due to crawling around in the attic running cables).
We use the app for the iphone, which seems to work pretty well most of the time. In the first few months there were some days when we could not access the cameras online. That problem seems to have resolved itself. We can see live video, as well as recorded video. We get about 2-3 weeks of videos before they are overwritten. You can capture videos or stills from either the live feed or the recorded feed. You can save the photos to your phone, or send them in messages, but I have yet to find a way to extract the videos that I've recorded. They are within the app, but not available to the phone or to send via email or text.
We are using the cameras both inside and outside. The system is in a remote rural location, so we use a wireless cellular hot spot for internet. We have a cheap small router that we use to receive the wireless, then hard wire that into the system.
When motion is detected, we get an email with a photo within about 1-2 minutes. We have this set up to forward a text message to our phones. This all works pretty well... but, our largest complaint is that the cameras are extremely sensitive when detecting motion, even on the least sensitive setting. For example, when the indoor camera switches from daytime (color) mode to dark (b&w) mode, this generates an email. Lightning will generate emails. Bugs, birds, sometimes even specs of dust floating through the air all generate emails.
We finally had to "mute the conversation" on our iphones because we were getting so many texts. So, we have become so desensitized to the barrage of emails and texts that if someone were breaking in, we probably would not know until hours later when we review the photos that get sent.
The photos and video quality are pretty decent. The cameras that we have set up honestly high (about 15-20 feet) on the outside of the building probably are too high up to get a sharp photo of a trespasser, but they do give an overall wider angle of the driveway approach. The ones that we have just over the door inside the apartment(about 6-7 feet high) give excellent, clear pictures. The ones that we have outside, under the eaves, sometimes get fogged up from raindrops, but they generally recover within a few days.
So, if I were in the market for a system like this, I would probably try to find one that didn't generate so many fake emails. Other than that, no real complaints.
