If upgrading from an older SD system you will be BLOWN AWAY,
As another reviewer said this DVR does have a fan, and it's not silent. Ours is in a closet in our bedroom and even with the doors to the closet open it doesn't bother us. It's not any louder than a Comcast DVR. Close the closet doors and you can't hear it at all.
My only real complete is the mounts on the cameras. Not a fan of the design as they don't provide as many options on adjustments as far as angles go, when compared to every other CCTV camera I've installed. They are plastic as well so they feel a bit cheap. They do the job, and it's not a deal breaker - but it could use some improvement for sure. I guess at this price point though it's not surprising.
The software on both the DVR and the Android app is MUCH better than what ZMODO offers. Beware though that as of the time of writing this, the well loved android app "IP CAM VIEWER" doesn't work with this model. The included "FLIR CLOUD" app is better in many ways though (a bit cluttered of a layout if nothing else).

Terrible Customer Support,
I managed to get it accessible from the Internet on my own but when I tried to change the admin password to something slightly more complex than the default, the unit changed the password but not to what I entered. Now, I cannot even access the system. I hoped to be able to reset it to the factory defaults but apparently you cannot do that "for security reasons." Their software messed up and now I have a boat anchor.
Follow up: I called their Customer Support to change the password and they gave me a 6 digit number to enter as the password. I am not sure I find being able to access the unit from the Internet by entering a 6 digit number more secure than being able to reset the unit to factory defaults by physically pressing a button on the unit. It turned out that my more complex password failed because the unit only accepts 6 characters. That's not very secure.

Right Installation Not That Simple,
The problem I see with this set are the cables. They are indoor rated only. Knowing what I know about electricity and rubber is that if this cable is installed outdoors it will start to breakdown after a couple years of being exposed to the sunlight and weather. Even if it's under an awning. So that means that if you are going to run the cables free air outside then for excellent measure you will need to place them in conduit. Since the connectors are so huge you will need to use a 3/4" conduit! That can get pricey and be time consuming to install not to mention it looks like crap on your house.
This brings up the next issue. The connectors on the end of the cables. The connectors are not rated to be outside either. If you start getting water or any kind of humidity in the connectors it will impact your image. Over time they will breakdown and you will have issues with the image. That would mean every few years you would need to run new cables. So to prevent this from happening you would need to install them in a weather proof box. Now the installation is looking more like a commercial/industrial install plus all the extra cost in materials.
This set is fantastic for someone who can drill a hole through the wall and run the cables directly into the camera and not have any cables outside. My suggestion to the engineers is this.
1. Having a 1' cable with connectors on the camera is installation prohibitive. It would be better if the installer could connect at the camera in a weather proof housing or connector. The 1' cable attached to the camera makes for difficulties mounting and drilling holes.
2. Provide at least 4 60' outdoor rated cables!
3. Say on the box that the cables are indoor rated only!
4. Make the connectors smaller. They are huge and it makes a huge mess when drilling holes.
Lastly, beware that the manufacturer says nothing about this in their instructions.
